At a glance

Lymphedema is the abnormal accumulation of lymph in the interstitial space, causing chronic swelling. The physiotherapy approach is based on Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT), an international protocol considered the gold standard for treatment, using a specially developed method based on up-to-date scientific evidence.

Treatment phases

The intensive phase combines manual lymphatic drainage, multilayer compression bandaging, muscle-pump exercises for lymphatic flow, and skin care. The aim is to reduce the volume of the affected limb.

During the maintenance phase, the patient begins using elastic compression stockings or arm sleeves, continues the exercises, and returns periodically for adjustments and reassessment.
